Hello! My name is Lia Roudebush, and I graduated with a Master of Science in Finance (MSF) program student at Purdue University in 2024. Before coming to Purdue, I completed my Bachelor of Science in Business with concentrations in accounting and finance. Most of my experience was in accounting, but towards the end of my undergraduate program, I found myself enjoying the finance coursework more. I decided to pursue an MS in Finance because I wanted to deepen my knowledge of finance while also meeting the 150-credit hour requirement to become eligible to sit for the CPA exam, should I choose to pursue that path.
I chose Purdue’s Daniels School of Business for my master’s education because I wanted the opportunities a larger university could offer, but with a closer, small community feel. Purdue’s reputation speaks for itself. I felt at home every time I stepped on campus, even before officially accepting my offer. The value I experienced from my time at Purdue through networking and professional opportunities, as well as social and campus life, was immeasurable.
Before making my decision to attend Purdue, I had many questions. While the staff in the Krannert Institute of Graduate Studies Office were extremely helpful and eager to answer questions about the program and its coursework, what it’s like to live in West Lafayette, opportunities beyond the walls of Krannert and Rawls, what kinds of support and resources are available, and anything in between. There was so much to consider when choosing the right-fit master’s program. I would have loved to have a student ambassador to chat with.
My very first introduction to my cohort was on orientation day. Seeing familiar names and faces is always nice, so engaging with my classmates before arrival could have alleviated some of the nervousness I initially felt. As a Business School Ambassador, I was thrilled to be part of this valuable resource on the other side of the table.

I want to encourage future Daniels School of Business graduate students to make the most of their time at Purdue. Graduation comes fast, and the experience is what each person makes of it. I encourage students to get the most out of it by building relationships with their peers and faculty, attending the networking events, participating in the case competitions and experiential learning, and enjoying non-academic activities. Purdue offers numerous great opportunities beyond the classroom. It is up to each person to take advantage of them.
As always, Boiler Up!
