Theoretically Elegant & Practically Relevant Research
The Data Science Center for Decision Making is a joint initiative of Purdue University’s Mitch Daniels School of Business and the College of Engineering.
Building on the legacy of Professor David Simchi-Levi’s pioneering Massachusetts Institute of Technology Data Science Lab, the Data Science Center for Decision Making partners with leading companies across industries to address today’s most complex operational challenges.
Its mission is bold: to harness data science, analytics and optimization to improve business performance at scale.
Anchored at Purdue — a university renowned for engineering excellence, manufacturing leadership and deep industry engagement — the Data Science Center for Decision Making sits at the intersection of analytic innovation and operational reality. It serves as a bridge between academia and industry, and between engineering and business, producing research that is both theoretically rigorous and practically transformative.

Purdue’s new Data Science Center for Decision Making, built on MIT’s pioneering Data Science Lab, helps companies predict disruption, strengthen supply chains and harness AI for autonomous, data‑driven decisions.

Before joining the Mitch Daniels School of Business as research faculty in the Supply Chain and Operations Management Department, Wu served as co-director in the Data Science Lab at MIT Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS).

David Simchi-Levi comes to Purdue from MIT to bolster the Daniels School’s supply chain department and the College of Engineering’s school of industrial engineering.
Here is a selection of companies the MIT Data Science Lab, now the Data Science Center for Decision Making, has worked with over the last 30 years.
