A team of undergraduate students from Purdue University’s Mitch Daniels School of Business claimed victory at the 2024 Wealth Management Case Competition organized by Washington University in St. Louis’ Olin Business School and Wells Fargo Advisors.
Competing against 40 undergraduate and graduate teams from across the nation, the Purdue team was comprised of Disha Panda, Tong En Sim, Darsh Chopra, Vedanth Dinesh and Shambhavi Adkar. They rose to the top with a comprehensive wealth management strategy for a model client, developed under the guidance of Professor of Practice and Executive Director of Business Leadership Richard Ryffel and Clinical Assistant Professor Fabrício d'Almeida.
The competition involved managing a simulated $1 million portfolio to address the client’s diverse financial goals. Week by week, new challenges required the team to evaluate and adjust their strategies, using advanced industry tools such as eMoney and Morningstar. With an emphasis on balancing risk and reward, the team executed real-time trades and crafted a tailored roadmap aimed at securing the client’s long-term financial success. Ryffel and d'Almeida’s mentorship proved invaluable throughout the competition, guiding the team through each stage and refining their approach to portfolio management.
“Representing the Daniels School of Business and bringing home this win speaks volumes about the grit, rigor, and excellence Purdue University instills in its students,” Panda says. “The guidance of our professors was invaluable, turning this experience into much more than a competition.”
This immersive experience offered the students a deep dive into the world of wealth management, expanding their understanding of investment strategies and client-centered solutions. Their win highlights a significant achievement for the Daniels School of Business, reflecting the institution's dedication to providing hands-on learning opportunities in finance and wealth management.
