The Purdue Center for Working Well (CWW) at the Mitch Daniels School of Business is excited to announce the opening of submissions for the 2024-2025 CWW Research Awards. This opportunity is open to all Purdue University faculty, staff and students.
These awards, aimed at fostering research that aligns with the center’s mission, will provide up to $5,000 for three selected proposals. Recipients will have the opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research that explores what it means to "work well" — from enhancing personal well-being to addressing organizational challenges like hybrid work, automation and promoting inclusive relationships.
The CWW encourages proposals that tackle critical topics such as reducing workforce burnout, creating sustainable performance and navigating grand societal challenges in modern organizations. Researchers will have one year to complete their projects and will be invited to share their findings at the annual CWW Organizational Consortium, a collaborative event where organizations and community members discuss emerging research.
Key Dates:
- December 13, 2024: Proposals due by 5 p.m. Eastern to Sarah Hetherington at shetheri@purdue.edu.
- January 17, 2025: Award recipients announced; funds distributed within the month.
- September 1, 2025: Progress reports due to Allie Gabriel and Sarah Heatherington.
- Fall 2025: Research findings presented at the CWW Organizational Consortium.
Preference will be given to projects involving student collaborators and/or interdisciplinary efforts across Purdue. The CWW encourages all interested teams — including those outside the Daniels School of Business — to apply, ensuring a competitive and diverse pool of proposals.
Proposal Guidelines:
- Applications should not exceed two (2) single-spaced pages, exclusive of citations and tables and/or figures. Proposals should state an explicit research question(s) and/or hypotheses, theoretical and practical importance of the work that is being conducted, and planned methodology. Proposals that are still a work in progress (e.g., lacking clear research questions; not grounded clearly in the literature; written in an ‘open-ended’ manner) will not be evaluated favorably. Although we have listed example topics above, we are open to additional areas where connections can be made to employees’ well-being at work and home. If you are unsure if your topic “fits” the CWW’s aims, please email Allie and she will be happy to clarify and assist.
- Applications should include a title page with author names, departmental affiliations, and titles at Purdue. Students must have at least one (1) faculty member on their author team.
- Applications should clearly specify how the funding and successful completion of the project will advance the CWW’s goals and objectives.
- Applications should detail, by category, estimates of how the funds will be used and within what time frame. Awards may not be used as a salary or compensation supplement for the awardee, nor can it be used for conference expenses. All expenses must be documented for tracking through the center at the conclusion of the award period.

The CWW encourages researchers across Purdue to apply for this opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the evolving understanding of work and well-being.
