Published on 10-09-2024

Continuing a long tradition of bringing world-renowned economists to campus, Purdue and the Daniels School host Lars Peter Hansen next week. The leading expert at the forefront of economic thinking and asset-price modeling will speak as part of Purdue’s Presidential Lecture Series and as a special guest at the Daniels School’s Purdue University Research Center in Economics (PURCE) economic policy luncheon.

While on campus October 16-18, Hansen will also speak to a class in Rawls Hall and meet with Daniels School faculty one-on-one, school leaders, and PhD students.

The David Rockefeller Distinguished Service Professor in Economics and Statistics at the University of Chicago shared the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel in 2013 with University of Chicago colleague Eugene Fama and Robert Shiller of Yale University. They were recognized for their groundbreaking research on the workings of financial markets, asset prices and behavioral economics.

Hansen will join Purdue President Mung Chiang onstage for the Presidential Lecture Series 6 p.m. Thursday, October 17, in the Union’s North Ballroom. Their conversation, “Uncertainty in Our Scientific Inputs Into Policy: Disguise It or Embrace It?,” is free and open to the public, but a general admission ticket is required. Reserve your seat here.

Hansen will talk about designing policies in the face of uncertainty at PURCE’s economic policy luncheon 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, in Rawls Hall. This event is also free, but registration is required and closes at noon Eastern on Friday, October 11.
