Purdue University students benefited from a close look at careers across private markets, real estate investment, and multifamily asset management when the Dean V. White Real Estate Finance Program welcomed three distinguished alumni back to campus September 23.
The combined panel and Scholars Dinner brought together industry perspectives from Nicole Klotz of Blue Owl Capital; Zane Barnett with Buckingham Companies; and Matthew Campbell of Merchants Capital. Each offered reflections on their professional journeys and advice for students entering the field.
The evening opened with a one-hour panel presented by the Purdue Real Estate Society and moderated by Real Estate Scholar Lola Kokott, who introduced the speakers and guided a conversation. Students asked the panelists about industry trends, skill development, and the realities of transitioning from college into the workforce.
Following the panel, the group moved to an exclusive Scholars Dinner featuring a more informal discussion with Klotz. Over the hour, Real Estate Scholars explored topics including alternative investments, career planning, building and maintaining mentor relationships, navigating work–life balance, and Klotz’s path to her role at Blue Owl. She offered practical guidance on evaluating employers, approaching the industry with curiosity, and staying connected to professional networks.
With three alumni representing different corners of the industry, the evening provided students with a multifaceted look at real estate careers. Their willingness to return to campus and engage directly with students reflects the growing Dean V. White Real Estate Program’s alumni network.
The dinner was part of the professional development series for Dean V. White Real Estate Scholars, designed to connect students with industry professionals and prepare them for leadership roles in commercial real estate. Experiences like this extend learning beyond the classroom, offering direct exposure to real-world career paths and industry insights.
