Anthony Gibbs is an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at the Mitchell E. Daniels, Jr. School of Business, Purdue University. His research interests are in corporate strategy, research methods, behavioral strategy, strategic change, earnings management, financial manipulation, and business ethics. He received a PhD in Strategy and Entrepreneurship, as well as MBA and MFin degrees from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland. He also holds an undergraduate degree in Sociology and English Literature (double major) from Centre College. He worked more than 16 years in industry, with a background in pharmaceuticals and U.S. federal government contracting.
His overall research agenda is on how external and behavioral influences on corporate decision-making can affect fundamental value creation by a firm. One stream of research is on impact of earnings management on the science and practice of strategic management. This examines the effect of earnings manipulation on econometric models of interest to strategy scholars as well as the upstream and downstream strategic decisions of a firm engaging in earnings manipulation. The second stream of research is on the sequencing of corporate scope actions, particularly in the context of M&A deal termination. His third main research interest is on novel econometric measures and techniques and the pragmatic application of such tools to important (but complex) research questions about firm behavior and performance.
