Purdue-India Delegation’s Visit Focused on Semiconductors

Purdue University President Mung Chiang and Jim Bullard, dean of the Daniels School, led a delegation of university leaders to India to discuss semiconductors.

The group attended SEMICON India 2024, which highlighted semiconductor ecosystem growth and industry trends. Thought leaders in global semiconductor design, manufacturing and supply chain gathered at the annual exhibition and conference. The Purdue agenda included lunch with semiconductor CEOs and meetings with a team from IMEC (India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor); Rudra Shriram (BS Economics, ’13); Secretary Abhay Karandikar, Interim CEO of India’s National Research Foundation; and the Honorable Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Education.

The group traveled from Uttar Pradesh to Chennai for a meeting with chairman emeritus of TVS Motors Venu Srinivasan (MSM '77, HDR '14), and then on to Mumbai for an alumni reception and a meeting with K. Krithivasan, CEO of Tata Consultancy Services.

The September 9-14 India visit concluded in Delhi, where Purdue officials met with the Hon. Ram Mohan Naidu, Cabinet Minister for civil aviation, and with Mathukumilli Sribharat, the president of the Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management.

The Purdue delegation included Dimitri Peroulis, senior vice president, Partnerships and Online; Vijay Raghunathan, vice president, Global Partnerships and Programs and director of semiconductor education; and Alyssa Wilcox, senior vice president of the Purdue for Life Foundation.
