Economics

The Economics Department at the Daniels School of Business has a long tradition of excellence in research and teaching. Economics faculty members are leaders in their respective fields. Our department offers both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. We host a vibrant seminar series spanning the many varied areas of economics — students hear from and interact with Purdue faculty, numerous guests, including nationally and internationally recognized scholars, and PhD students.

Daniels School students can get outside-the-classroom experiences participating in real research and assisting with faculty research projects when they partner with the business school's econ centers.

Purdue University Research Center in Economics

At PURCE, select faculty affiliates conduct research on how laws, regulations and government programs affect the market economy and the well-being of individuals and society. Students meeting specific criteria can apply for paid research assistantships, to work with PURCE faculty and staff on policy-related tasks and projects.

Center for Behaviorial Economics, Experiments and Public Policy

This behavioral and experimental economics research center brings together faculty, students and partners who fuse theory and data to better understand decision making. Center-supported research provides solid empirical foundations to address important public policy and management questions.

Vernon Smith in the VSEEL lab

Vernon Smith Experimental Economics Laboratory

VSEEL is a facility for laboratory data collection for economics, management, and other social sciences. Undergraduates volunteer to assist with research in the experimental economics laboratory. This valuable opportunity gives students an in-depth look at how modern research in conducted.

Purdue Center for Economic Education

PCEE equips K-12 teachers with research-based, ready-to-use classroom materials and hosts educational events that improve economic literacy. Center faculty and staff work directly with teachers in school systems in Indiana’s Tippecanoe and surrounding counties, providing curriculum that foster the development of the concepts of economic education, including financial literacy and entrepreneurship.

Research

The faculty in Purdue's Economics Department are leaders in their respective fields. Many of them have been recognized all over the world for their ground-breaking research and affiliations with world-renowned economics journals.
