You can study abroad in your sophomore, junior, and senior years. Freshman are eligible to participate in the short-term spring break programs and summer programs available through the Daniels School of Business.
There are no language requirements for our preferred programs. However, some of the campus-wide programs require language study or equivalent demonstrated.
Submit your application at least 6-9 months before you want to study abroad.
Complete your application online. Each program page has a “click to enroll in this program” link. The application takes about 10 minutes to complete.
Short-term: These programs can run as short as one week over spring break or up to several weeks (but less than one semester). A variety of countries and credits are available through these short term programs. These opportunities may be administered by any office here on campus, not just the Daniels School. Pricing of these programs is comparable to paying Purdue tuition.
Departmental Programs: Similar to short-term programs, these study abroad opportunities usually run at least a week or up to six weeks during university breaks. These programs are specific to a campus department. If you select a Daniels School departmental program, you have the highest likelihood the courses will count toward your business school degree. Pricing of these programs is comparable to paying Purdue tuition.
Semester Programs: These programs are for a full semester. They can be traditional exchange programs where students pay Purdue tuition but study at an institution abroad. Or they can be Co-Sponsored, where students pay an amount determined by the international education agency running the program. Both types of programs can offer a variety of electives and core courses.
Once your application has been received and reviewed, the Study Abroad Office will notify you by email regarding your acceptance and direct you to complete additional materials to confirm your participation. Examples of additional materials are transcripts, an essay, and one or two letters of recommendation.
It is your personal study abroad portal to check your application status and complete application materials and pre-departure forms. When you return from your program, please log in to complete a quick evaluation.
One of the pre-departure forms you will fill out is the Study Abroad Course Approval Form. This form serves as a record of the courses you would like to take while abroad. The Study Abroad Liaison(s) determine your course equivalents. This form will be used to ensure course equivalency upon your return.
When the Study Abroad Course Approval Form is completed, we recommend that additional courses be selected as back-ups. In addition, if you cannot register for the pre-selected courses at the study abroad institution, please contact your academic advisor ASAP to receive verification on available courses.
Purdue University is committed to developing a wide variety of international study, research and work opportunities for its students. At the same time we recognize that there are times and places where personal security issues may outweigh the advantages of exposure to international experiences; therefore, we have developed a very careful and considered approach to the safety of our students. This includes careful monitoring of U.S. Department of State travel warnings and public announcements. In addition, we have implemented an emergency preparedness and crisis response plan for our overseas programs by providing key individuals, including on-site faculty and host institution administrators, with guidelines to follow under a variety of circumstances.
