Fitting with Purdue University’s tripartite mission of learning, discovery, and engagement, the Purdue Center for Working Well (CWW) aims to be a cutting-edge center at the forefront of challenges facing modern workforces and employees’ desire to “work well."
The core mission of the CWW is to develop a robust understanding of what “working well” means to employees and organizations—encompassing challenges with promoting personal well-being (e.g., reducing workforce burnout, promoting thriving), creating sustainable performance, adapting to grand challenges in modern organizations (e.g., societal issues; hybridization and automation of work), and cultivating positive relationships at work and home broadly defined.

Over the past several decades, traditional overt forms of discrimination have gradually been replaced by subtle forms of discrimination that are more ambiguous and difficult to detect. Though the decrease in blatant overt acts of discrimination indeed symbolizes progress, research suggests that this apparent “fix” has generated additional problems.
Featured on the Daniels Insights blog, Wharton professor Nancy Rothbard's Distinguished Speaker Series talk explored how social media is blurring the boundaries between our personal and professional lives, challenging workplace norms and reshaping online connections.
In partnership with the Purdue HR Case Competition and Conference, the Center for Working Well (CWW) recently presented research from its inaugural Working Well Research Awards. These presentations centered on the challenges employees face both in crafting healthier relationships with work and work-life balance, to finding time outside of work to craft meaningful relationships.
Their award proposal, “Intuitive Working™: A New Lens on Work Consumption,” contributes to the growing science-practice rebellion against 24/7 work cultures, offering a more sustainable work system that encourages employees and organizations to ask: When have employees done enough work?
The Center for Working Well is helping to create better work places. Your support of our efforts is much appreciated.
