Benefits of a Handshake Account for Daniels Graduate Students

  1. Create Your Handshake Account: Continue searching and applying for jobs on the platform. Companies often post jobs for experienced professionals, especially graduates with a few years of experience. By creating your account, you will have access to job postings from over 6,000 companies that recruit from Daniels School of Business.
  2. Complete your Handshake Profile: Students with completed profiles can be searched for and messaged by employers. Handshake will also recommend jobs based on your interests, skills, and profile. The more information you give to Handshake, the more personalized your content and jobs will be for you.
  3. Upload your Resume to Handshake: By uploading your resume to your Handshake profile and making it public, employers can view and download your resume. Business Career Services can also send your resume to companies when contacted about immediate internship or job opportunities.
  4. Set up Job Alerts and Notifications: Job alerts and notification preferences allow you to have jobs sent to your inbox. This is great, especially if you are considering multiple career paths. You can also follow target companies and Handshake will notify you when jobs from target companies are posted.
  5. Network with Employers on Handshake: Handshake allows students to message employers and alumni. Don’t have an email address of a recruiter to follow up? Search company accounts and reach out on Handshake.
  6. Register for Events on Handshake: You can register on Handshake for on-campus events hosted by Business Career Services such as the career fair and networking nights. Many companies also host their own virtual or in person events each month and market them via Handshake. We recommend visiting Handshake regularly, so you don’t miss out on any upcoming events!

9 Ways to Maximize Your Opportunities on Handshake

With over 750,000+ employers – including all of the Fortune 500 to start-ups, nonprofits and more – Handshake is the #1 platform for college students looking for internships and jobs. BCS is proud to offer this platform exclusively for Daniels business students!

To maximize your chance to get noticed by employers on Handshake, follow these steps!

  1. Activate your account and complete your Handshake profile by adding at least one experience, interest and skill. These are searchable fields for recruiters to find you!
  2. Complete your job interests. Job Type, Location, Job Roles, Student Organizations and more. Filling out job interests allows Handshake to send you recommended jobs. Don’t worry, these can be changed if you’re not sure what you’re looking for!
  3. Upload a resume and make it public/visible. By making it visible, employers can review your resume for opportunities you may not be aware of and reach out. From your Handshake account, click on the icon in top right corner. From the drop-down menu, click on “My documents”. Ensure your resume is uploaded and marked “Visible”. This allows companies to view your resume in this resume book.
  4. Add more experiences to your profile, including special skills. This should align with your LinkedIn profile.
  5. Create job alerts. Save your job searches so that Handshake can notify you when jobs meet your criteria. You can have notifications and/or emails turned on to alert you.
  6. Be Proactive. Don’t wait for a recruiter to find you. You can use Handshake to message employers first with questions, ask for an informational interview to learn more about the company/position, or to let them know that you’ve applied to a position.
  7. Apply to jobs and internships. Some companies may have you apply in Handshake with your resume, others may have you apply externally to their website from the Handshake job posting.
  8. RSVP and attend events promoted on Handshake. BCS has companies promote recruiting events  on-campus on Handshake, so be sure to stay up-to-date on events added by companies weekly using the calendar feature on Handshake.
  9. Stand out! There are many more virtual opportunities to connect with companies through events posted on Handshake. Attending virtual events lets companies know you have interest in working for them.
