Bowen Scholars Program

The Bowen Scholars Program is a scholarship program that will help support your academic endeavors. You will also have the opportunity to give back! This program offers:

$1,500 in scholarship support each semester

Eligibility Criteria

  • African-Americans who attend or plan to attend Purdue University and participate in the Business Opportunity Program (must be a U.S. citizen)
  • Residents of Marion County, Indiana are given preference

Scholar Responsibilities

Our Bowen Scholars maintain eligibility by participating in:

  • Individualized guidance, mentoring and tutoring
  • Service learning and cultural events
  • Monthly advising and student meetings

How to Apply

The online application opens May 1.

First, please complete and submit the online application. This application contains three essay questions; we strongly recommend that you write your essays in a Word document and copy and paste into the application.

Second, forward the recommender link to one or two people who can provide recommendation letters on your behalf.

Don't forget to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year of your application.

Meet the Bowens

Robert L. Bowen, Founder and former CEO of Bowen Engineering, together with his wife Terry, have a deep commitment to the African-American community of Marion County and the surrounding area. The Bowens believe that given an opportunity, a person can increase his or her earning potential, improve self-esteem, and set an example for future generations. They strive to help our students achieve these goals.
