Interview/Mock Interview Cancelling Policy

Students should provide 48-hour or more notice to the employer and to Business Career Services if they need to cancel an interview. If late cancellation is unavoidable, the student should inform the office as soon as possible and follow the ‘late notice/no show procedure’ explaining why the interview was missed. By maintaining a positive relationship with the employer, the student may be able to reschedule the interview. The decision to reschedule will be at the discretion of the employer.

Late Notice/No-Show Policy

When Business Career Services is notified that a student misses a scheduled interview with an employer, and proper notice was not provided, the student’s Handshake access will be blocked, removing the ability to schedule additional on-campus interviews and/or apply for additional positions, RVSP for recruiting events, etc.. To regain access to Handshake, an apology e-mail will need to be sent to the recruiter by the student within three days of the missed interview. If needed, recruiter contact information may be obtained through Business Career Services. The student should cc Business Career Services in the apology e-mail, so that verification can be made that the procedure was followed, and the student’s account will then be unblocked. If an apology e-mail is not received within three business days of the missed interview, or if a student no-shows to more than one scheduled interview, they will need to meet with their Business Career Services Career Consultant to regain use of Handshake.

This procedure applies to interviews arranged independently by the student as well as interviews arranged via Business Career Services events.

Policy on Reneging of Job Offer Acceptance

Following the acceptance of a job or internship offer, ceasing job searching activities is considered to be in best professional form in most cases. If a student is not prepared to go to work for the employer that made the offer, they should request more time to decide, respectfully decline or indicate to the employer they are not prepared to make a decision and allow the employer to decide if the offer will continue to stand.

If Business Career Services learns of a renege situation, we will invite the student to our offices to discuss the ramifications of holding two or more accepted offers as well as the actions one can take to avoid holding more than one accepted offer in the future. Reneging is considered to be contrary to Business Career Services policy and it affects more parties than the individual involved. Upon determination that a renege has occurred, access to online recruiting will be restricted until the matter is resolved with a Career Consultant. If the student would prefer not to engage in a conversation about the topic, online recruiting access will remain restricted.

Business Career Services exists to support students and employers. If difficulties in managing offers occur, please consider the office your partner in successful navigation of offer evaluation, negotiation and acceptance/declination.
