The Dauch Center, located within the Daniels School of Business, has led the implementation of a course (VIP), a club, while also opening the electric Go-Kart space to students from other schools across the university.
Support the Dauch Center EV Go Karts
Students will learn about electric batteries, motors, race dynamics and techniques, marketing and fundraising. The project challenges them to apply their design, engineering, business, and problem-solving skills while fostering teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Since the team started 3 years ago, the program has grown from a team of 6 students working on a single kart to 60+ students collaborating on 3 different karts, The Mitch Mobile, The Sequel, and Lady Elizabeth (the first all-female EV GoKart Team at Purdue).
With the large increase in students, this has allowed for more specific actions to be taken on each kart. Each kart has its own team dedicated to only that kart, with students focusing on either the engineering or marketing aspect of the kart.
Though each team is dedicated to a specific kart, these students collaborate together to achieve optimal success and pursue the ambitious goal of having all three karts placed in the top 3 of the EV Grand Prix. This goal was nearly achieved in April 2025 when Lady Elizabeth won first place of the event as the first all-female team to compete and win the race. The Mitch Mobile won third place overall. Next year, the team aims to place The Sequel on the podium along with the other two karts.
Through this experience, students gain invaluable experience that bridges academics and practical application, showcasing their skills on a highly visible platform. It allows them to put their academics into practical application through building the kart, learning from corporate sponsors achieved through the marketing team, and become confident as professionals.
The group is divided into support teams for each kart, including fundraising and marketing efforts both collectively and per kart. The operation groups focus on assembly, optimization, design, and performance efficiency.
Together, these sub-teams prepare for the EV Grand Prix, an exciting annual event held each April at Purdue University's Grand Prix Track. Through this project, students gain invaluable experience that bridges academics and practical application, showcasing their skills on a high-visibility platform.
Since its debut in 2010, the EV Grand Prix has been a premier event for electric vehicle racing. This unique competition challenges teams to excel in three key areas:
