Adranos, HemoTherm claim top spots at 29th annual Morgan Business Plan Competition
A student-led business developing a more powerful and environmentally friendly solid rocket propellant was among the big winners in February at Purdue's $100,000 Burton D. Morgan Business Plan Competition. Adranos Energetics LLC claimed the $30,000 top prize in the Gold Division for its business plan to develop rocket fuel for aviation and aerospace industries that could minimize HCl aerosol formation and increase total propulsion. Walmart partners with Purdue for weekend data dive
The Krannert School welcomed 12 universities for a data dive the first weekend in April. The student teams had 24 hours to analyze data sets provided by international retailer Walmart. The Krannert-Walmart Data Dive, involving both undergraduate and master's students, is believed to be the first data dive on a college campus. It provided an experiential learning opportunity for students to analyze real-world information. Upon completion of the challenge, each team submitted an idea to improve efficient shelf space usage or customer segmentation. Walmart executives selected the winning team and award two $5,000 prizes. More
Students launch hedge fund, offer portfolio management
Five students from Purdue’s Krannert School have launched an investment startup to protect, manage and grow client portfolios, and they have already reached investment interest in the seven-figure range. The students began planning their equity strategy hedge fund in early 2014 and officially founded it as Gold Sail Capital in November 2015. The group anticipates that the fund will reach an eight-figure range by this summer. More
U.S. Office of Personnel Management appoints Krannert researcher
Ellen Kossek, a faculty member in Purdue's Krannert School and director of research for the Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence, chaired the Work/Life Committee for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management for a research summit in March at the School for Public Affairs at American University in Washington, D.C. The federal agency is charged with recruiting and retaining a workforce for all U.S. governmental agencies. The summit brought together academic researchers, federal practitioners and industry partners to exchange ideas, collaborate and participate in conversations to guide a future research and policy agenda. Krannert offers blended Weekend MBA program
The Krannert School of Management has restructured its Weekend MBA program. The new format remains at 21 months but now features two-thirds on-campus instruction and one-third online work, meaning participants need to travel to campus only twice a month for classes. Under the new format, students will take two classes at a time and will have sessions every other Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. In the old format, students met on Fridays and Saturdays every other week. Classes in the new format are held on the West Lafayette campus and are taught by tenured Krannert professors and selected visiting faculty. Classes will begin in August and will conclude in May 2018. More
Purdue startups advance to 'Gold' level funding in Elevate Purdue Foundry Fund
Three Purdue-affiliated startups each received $60,000 in the first round of "Gold Award" funding from the Elevate Purdue Foundry Fund. The fund provides support to new companies that are commercializing a Purdue University innovation. Startups can advance to a Gold Award level only after they have received a Black Award from the Elevate Purdue Foundry Fund. Purdue students in the Student Managed Venture Fund provided due diligence reviews for companies that were eligible to receive Gold Award funding. The student teams are composed of competitively selected graduate students and seniors in the course, which is offered through the Krannert School of Management in collaboration with Purdue Research Foundation and the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship. More
