Entrepreneurship Week celebrates startup successes

An idea competition, panel discussions and networking events were part of this year’s Entrepreneurship Week at Purdue, which also included a celebrity keynote by Shark Tank personality Daymond John at the Krannert Leadership Speakers Series on Oct. 8. John is a lifestyle branding expert and an in-demand motivational speaker. The New York City-based entrepreneur launched his career 20 years ago with the founding of FUBU, quickly growing annual sales to $350 million. The week’s events were geared toward aspiring entrepreneurs with special emphasis on startup resources available to the Purdue University and Greater Lafayette communities. Krannert takes part in event to improve business opportunities for women

Representatives from Krannert participated in a daylong White House summit in August to explore ways to expand opportunities for women in business and adapt to changing workforce needs. Sponsored by the White House Council on Women and Girls and the Council of Economic Advisers, the event brought together business school leaders and corporate CEOs to discuss recruiting, training and retaining leaders for the 21st-century workplace and the importance of implementing policies that work for families. David Hummels, dean and economics professor, and Ellen Kossek, the Basil S. Turner Professor of Management and an expert on work-life issues, represented Purdue at the summit. More

Two alumna receive Influential Leaders Award

AACSB International, the global accrediting body and membership association for business schools, recognized two alumni from the Krannert School for their innovative leadership. Beth Brooke-Marciniak (BSIM ’81, HDR ’12) and Carolyn Woo (BSIM ’76, MSIA ’76, PhD ’79) were recognized on the 100 AACSB Influential Leaders list of honorees, which includes 20 industry sectors across 21 countries. Brooke-Marciniak is the global vice chair of public policy for EY. Woo is president and CEO of Catholic Relief Services, the U.S. Catholic community’s humanitarian agency. More

New MS degree program now accepting applications

Krannert is accepting applications for a new one-year master’s degree program in Business Analytics and Information Management (MS BAIM) that will begin in June 2016. The degree program will educate students in state-of-the-art information technologies and analytical techniques and is designed to enable informed decision-making using data. Students will have opportunities to apply their learning to real-world problems; gain exposure and competency in current best practices of data handling and analysis; develop awareness of various business contexts that benefit from data-driven decisions; and advance their ability to communicate findings to a variety of audiences. PhD students earn research recognition

The Krannert School’s Department of Management and Department of Economics doctoral programs office recently recognized PhD students James Bland and Warut Khern-am-nuai as the 2015-16 recipients of the Purdue Research Foundation (PRF) Robert W. Johnson Award for Distinguished Research Proposal. Bland received the award for his PRF proposal titled “The Roommate’s Dilemma: An Experimental Analysis of Choice Bracketing in Games” and Khern-am-nuai for his PRF proposal titled “Incentive Problems in Digital Markets.”
