Experiential Learning - Information for Students

What is the student experience like?

Student teams are responsible for acting as consultants to an organization on an operations-management related problem. Teams will meet with the partner company up-front to gather requirements and understand the business problem, then meet weekly with the faculty adviser to discuss progress and plan upcoming efforts. At the end of the term, teams present their recommendations to the partner company.

How are projects chosen?Student in Rawls Hall

Faculty line up a variety of projects from partner companies, spanning a range of areas in operations management. At the beginning of the term, students provide both their project preferences and relevant biographical information, and the faculty advisor uses this information to form teams. In recent terms, all students have gotten the opportunity to work on either their first or second choice project.

Do I have to be in the GSCM master's program to participate?

Students in graduate programs other than the MSGSCM program may participate with faculty permission. To be eligible, students should have an interest in operations research and a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work.
