Elementary Education

Photo of an Elementary ClassPurdue has fully-accredited teacher programs for elementary teachers.  The elementary education program prepares students through a combination of classes with early and frequent field experiences.  There are four strands which run through and guide the program:  diversity, technology, field experience, and performance assessment (including the use of electronic portfolios).   The elementary education program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Indiana Department of Education.

Once licensed, elementary education graduates are qualified to teach all subjects to elementary students (kindergarten through 6th grade) in a public, private, or independent school.  Because Purdue has licensing agreements with 43 other states, graduates will be able to teach almost anywhere in the country.
